What is the Digital Platforms Tax about?

The Digital Platforms Tax regime requires all travel platforms to withhold taxes from Hosts and Travellers.

Income Tax is withheld from earnings generated by offering spaces on the Airbnb platform.

A 16% Value Added Tax (TAX) is paid by the traveller, on top of the nightly rate that hosts set. This does not affect your income.

How much does Airbnb withhold from my host income?

20% Income Tax will be withheld from host income if you do not enter an RFC* on Airbnb. This may be creditable in your home country. Read here how to credit this tax is you are a resident in the US or CA.

How much does Airbnb withhold from my host income?

As a non-resident in Mexico, you can get your RFC, know as the Federal Taxpayers Registry, free of charge. You can follow the steps here, or be assisted by local companies (*). You may be required to comply with Mexican tax obligations:
